Social Media Marketing Tips for Your New Product Release

One could write a whole book on the social media campaign for a new product release. We don't have time or room for that in today's post, so I'd like to share just a few tips that will get you started.

On a normal day, when promoting your products online, a good rule of thumb is to mention them on social media one to two times per day. We don't want to inundate our readers with countless posts about our products (they'll stop following us), but we do need to make them aware of them.

If you provide something of value–which you should if you've done your research and have created something that your target audience is asking for–, then you need to believe that your product is an answer to one of your customers' main issues.

It may not be the best thing since sliced bread, but it shouldn't be another household product that does the same thing and contains the same level of harmful chemicals as every other household product on the market.

But when it comes to a new product on its release date, we're dealing with a whole different animal.

Have you ever listened to a radio station or watched a PBS channel during one of their fundraisers? Throughout the fundraiser, they talk a lot about the product, whether it is a DVD set or a donation to support a cause. Sometimes it's a bit much.

In addition to talking about their product, they offer value throughout the program as well. It isn't just about buying the product or donating to the cause; they're playing songs periodically or they're showing clips or broadcasting a special show.

So, when writing your social media updates for your new product release (and again, I recommend writing these before you release your product), think about the fundraiser. It's important to get the word out about your product, and it's also important to provide value that your readers can benefit from right away.

Remember that you're offering a valuable product, so give readers the opportunity to check it out. Let them know that you don't want them to miss out on your offer.

The next social media marketing tip that I want to share is to vary the style of your updates. If your updates are all the same, readers will start to tune you out. That's like the kiss of death, especially on your special day.

Make special announcements, provide quick tips with a link to your landing page for more information or tips, and use headlines. Be sure to mention benefits and why readers should be interested in what you're offering. Again, as I mentioned earlier, provide some non-product-related updates throughout the day for added value.

Stayed tuned next week as we continue our Marketing Campaign Checklist series.
