How to Stay Focused & Motivated to Write With Proper Self-Care

Recently, I wrote an article about the importance of self-care. We need to take care of ourselves so we can stay on track. Today, I wanted to take it a step further and talk about how to stay focused with proper self-care.

When you begin to pay attention to your needs, physical and emotional, you'll start to see what types of things help to keep you focused.

For me, if I don't work on certain things every day, I get frustrated or irritated. If I don't get my daily dose of reading in, I feel like the whole day has been wasted or at least unproductive.

So, the first step is making a list of things that you need.

We know that keeping ourselves hydrated has many benefits, not just for our physical health but also for our mental health. When we feel healthy, we're more likely to feel energized. And that energy is what will help us feel motivated and inspired so we can get our work done.

What other self-care items will help you stay focused on your goals?

Healthy eating is another one. We'll feel better if we eat healthier foods. A simple way to incorporate healthy eating into our lifestyles is to eat salads with every meal.

Doing things that will help you stay positive throughout the day is another good way to use self-care to stay focused on your goals. Examples include bible reading and prayer, using essential oils, reading positive or inspiring quotes, and listening to uplifting music.

What other things are important to you? Do you need your daily dose of reading? Have you been neglecting your writing? Adding daily writing to your self-care list, even if it's just for 10 minutes a day, will help.

Self-care can also be in the form of avoidance. Do you need to limit your TV or social media habits? Do you need to limit the time you spend on the phone?

These are just a few ideas. What other things can you think of? Add those things to your list and then decide what things you need to do, limit, or avoid on a daily basis.

The next step is sticking to your new self-care rules. Once you have your list, print it out and stick it on your wall or somewhere you will see it often. Then try to stick to those things throughout the day. Monitor how you feel when you do them and when you neglect them. Are they still as important as they were when you made your list? If anything changes, update your list.

Taking care of ourselves and meeting our own needs will help us stay on track over the long-term. In order to feel good and fulfilled, what are some things that you need to work on every day?
