Hi there! Wondering what this site is all about?
Over the last year and a half, I've thought a lot about simplifying my life in ways that allow me to focus on activities that I love. It's so easy to get caught up in the everyday life, doing the same things day in and day out, getting up in the morning, going to work, getting home, cooking dinner, and going to bed only to get up the next morning to do it all over again. Because why? To support our lifestyles and to pay the bills. Some people are ok with that and that's fine. But I wasn't.
I started looking at all of the stuff we had that we didn't actually need. The big house, the bigger mortgage payment, duplicates and triplicates of cooking utensils and cookware, a room full of books I had accumulated since elementary school, random stuff shoved into closets we rarely opened, clothes I never wore, and a master closet that was three times the size it needed to be. Why keep all the stuff you're never going to use?
We started looking for cheaper, smaller homes so we could downsize, but none of the homes that were in our desired budget afforded us the acreage we wanted. The idea was to find the right place and get settled in. No more searching for something else. No more wanting a bigger yard or more privacy. We wanted this next place to be our long-term residence. We both wanted heavily-wooded acreage and a smaller home. We couldn't find that in Colorado near our jobs. The closest place was Estes Park, and even then, it was too densely populated for what we wanted. So, we started considering other states. That's how we ended up in Alaska and we're loving it!
