Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 10, 2026 This Privacy Policy explains how Emery Road Writing Services, LLC collects, uses, discloses, and retains personal information when you visit or use the websites and online stores listed below. Emery Road Publications is a publishing brand operated by Emery Road Writing Services, LLC. In this Policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Emery Road Writing Services, LLC, and “you” refers to a visitor, customer, account holder, member, commenter, or subscriber. The Sites and stores are intended primarily for customers in the United States. If you access a Site from another location, your information may be processed in the United States and in other locations where our service providers operate.

Sites Covered by This Policy

This Policy applies to the following websites and any stores, account areas, membership areas, or services operated through them:
  • emeryroad.com
  • jodycalkins.com
  • louisenelson.com
  • isoldejancyk.com
  • livyhayward.com
  • emersonleising.com
This Policy does not apply to third-party websites or services that we do not control, even when a Site links to them.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

We collect information that you choose to provide when you place an order, create an account, register for membership access, subscribe to a newsletter, leave a comment or product review, contact us, or otherwise interact with a Site.

Orders and Checkout

When you place or begin an order, we may collect:
  • Your name and email address
  • An optional telephone number
  • Billing information and, when physical products are offered, a shipping address
  • Products viewed, placed in your cart, purchased, refunded, or otherwise associated with the transaction
  • Order number, order date, purchase price, currency, discounts, tax information, and order status
  • Payment-related identifiers and limited payment details returned by the payment processor, such as card brand and last four digits, where available
  • Communications concerning the order, delivery, refund, dispute, or support request
We do not store complete payment-card numbers on our Sites. Payment information is collected and processed by Stripe and any applicable digital-wallet provider.

Customer and Membership Accounts

Customer accounts are available, and guest checkout is also permitted. Account records may include your name, username, email address, billing and shipping details, order history, download permissions, account preferences, and login or security activity. We use Ultimate Member to provide registration, login, account management, and access to restricted membership content, including the Emery Road Story Vault. When you register through Ultimate Member, we collect your username, first and last name, email address, and password. Passwords are stored in protected, hashed form and are not visible to us in readable form. We do not intentionally display Vault Reader accounts in a public member directory.

Abandoned Carts

Our Cart Abandonment Recovery for WooCommerce feature may capture your email address and information entered during checkout as soon as you provide an email address, even if you do not complete the purchase. This information may include your name, optional telephone number, billing or shipping details, cart contents, cart value, and checkout activity. We may use it to send cart-reminder emails and provide a unique link that restores your cart. Cart reminders are separate from our regular newsletters. You may use the unsubscribe or “Don’t remind me again” option in a reminder email to stop further reminders.

Newsletters and Purchaser Records

Newsletter enrollment is optional and requires separate consent. If you subscribe, we collect your email address and any name or preferences you choose to provide. Each promotional newsletter includes a method to unsubscribe. When you make a purchase, Make.com may transfer purchaser information to MailerLite so that we can maintain a purchaser list and administer purchase-related communications. Placement on a purchaser list does not, by itself, enroll you in a regular promotional newsletter.

Comments and Product Reviews

If you leave a blog comment or product review, we may collect the information shown in the applicable form, including your name, email address, website address if provided, comment or review content, IP address, browser information, and submission time. Comments and reviews may be displayed publicly with the name or display name you provide. Spam-prevention services may process this information.

Communications

If you email or otherwise contact us, we collect the information contained in your message and any information needed to respond, provide support, address an order issue, or maintain an appropriate record of the communication. Please do not send payment-card numbers or other sensitive financial information by email.

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit a Site, we and our service providers may automatically collect information such as:
  • IP address and approximate location derived from the IP address
  • Browser type, operating system, device type, language, and similar technical information
  • Pages viewed, links clicked, referring pages, search terms, dates, times, and interaction data
  • Shopping activity, including product views, cart additions or removals, checkout activity, and purchases
  • Cookie identifiers, advertising identifiers, and similar online identifiers
  • Login attempts, account activity, and information used to prevent fraud, spam, and unauthorized access

Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Sites and stores, maintain shopping carts and sessions, authenticate accounts, remember preferences, measure traffic and performance, prevent fraud and abuse, and support advertising and cart recovery. Essential cookies are necessary for functions such as account login, cart operation, checkout, security, and delivery of requested services. Analytics and advertising technologies may collect information about browsing and shopping activity. Browser settings can be used to block or remove cookies, but doing so may prevent parts of a Site, cart, account, or checkout from working correctly. Where a cookie-preference control is available, you may also use it to manage nonessential technologies.

Analytics and Advertising

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Sites and stores. Google may receive information such as IP address, device and browser information, approximate location, referring pages, pages viewed, and interactions with Site features. If ecommerce measurement is enabled, Google may also receive product views, cart activity, order number, product information, quantities, and purchase totals. Google processes this information under its own privacy terms and controls.

Meta Pixel

We use Meta Pixel to measure advertising performance, understand visitor activity, create or measure audiences, and improve advertising. Meta may receive information about page visits, product interactions, cart and checkout activity, purchases, browser and device information, IP-derived location, and cookie or similar identifiers. Meta processes this information under its own privacy terms and controls. We do not sell personal information for money. Certain disclosures involving advertising technologies may be considered a “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising under some state privacy laws, depending on the circumstances and whether those laws apply.

How We Use Information

We may use personal information to:
  • Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Sites, stores, accounts, and membership areas
  • Create and administer customer and Vault Reader accounts
  • Process payments, fulfill orders, deliver digital or physical products, and provide download assistance
  • Calculate taxes and maintain accounting, tax, and business records
  • Send order confirmations, delivery notices, account messages, service announcements, and support responses
  • Send abandoned-cart reminders when an email address is known and honor requests to stop those reminders
  • Send newsletters and promotional messages when separately authorized
  • Display, moderate, and administer comments and product reviews
  • Measure Site and store performance, understand customer interactions, and evaluate advertising
  • Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, spam, security incidents, misuse, chargebacks, and violations of our terms
  • Comply with law, enforce agreements, protect rights and safety, and resolve disputes

How We Disclose Information

We do not sell personal information for money. We disclose information to service providers and other parties when necessary to operate the Sites and business, provide requested services, comply with law, or protect legitimate interests. Depending on the transaction and Site features used, recipients may include:

Website, Store, and Security Providers

  • IONOS and other hosting, infrastructure, backup, caching, security, and technical-support providers
  • WordPress, WooCommerce, Automattic, Jetpack, Akismet, Wordfence, Ultimate Member, and related extensions used to operate, secure, and administer the Sites
  • TaxJar, through WooCommerce Tax, which may receive the value of goods in the cart, shipping value, and destination address to calculate applicable taxes when automated tax calculation is enabled

Payments and Digital Wallets

Stripe processes card payments and may receive billing information, transaction amount, currency, and other information required to authorize, complete, refund, secure, or dispute a transaction. If you use Apple Pay, Google Pay, or another wallet, the wallet provider also processes information under its own terms.

Product Delivery and Fulfillment

  • BookFunnel receives information needed to deliver ebooks, audiobooks, and printable PDF products and to provide delivery or device support.
  • If physical-book fulfillment through BookVault is offered, BookVault receives the customer and shipping information, order contents, and related details needed to produce and ship the order and provide fulfillment support.

Email and Automation

MailerLite and Make.com process information used to maintain purchaser records, manage newsletter subscriptions, automate authorized data transfers, send communications, and record subscription or unsubscribe status. The Cart Abandonment Recovery for WooCommerce plugin stores abandoned-cart information in our Site database and uses it to send configured recovery emails.

Analytics, Advertising, and Cloud Storage

  • Google receives analytics and, where enabled, ecommerce-measurement information through Google Analytics.
  • Meta receives advertising-measurement and interaction information through Meta Pixel.
  • Google Drive and Apple iCloud may store access-controlled backup copies of business and order records.

Legal and Business Disclosures

We may disclose information when we reasonably believe disclosure is required by law, legal process, court order, or governmental request; necessary to investigate fraud or security incidents; needed to protect our rights, property, customers, or others; or connected with a potential merger, financing, sale, reorganization, or transfer of all or part of the business. A successor would remain subject to this Policy unless and until it provides a revised notice.

Business Records and Backups

We maintain limited records of digital and physical orders in locally stored files and access-controlled cloud backups. Depending on the order, these records may include order number, order date, customer name, contact, billing, or shipping information, items purchased, order total, payment or refund status, and related support information. We use these records for accounting, tax, fulfillment, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, chargeback response, and legal purposes.

Data Retention

We retain personal information for the period reasonably necessary to provide services, maintain business and tax records, prevent fraud, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and comply with law. Current WooCommerce retention settings generally provide for:
  • Pending orders: 7 days
  • Failed orders: 30 days
  • Cancelled orders: 30 days
  • Completed orders: 7 years
  • Refunded orders: 7 years
  • Locally retained Stripe-related transaction data: 7 years
Customer and membership account information is retained until the account is deleted by us or upon a verified request, subject to retention of order, tax, security, fraud-prevention, dispute, and legal records. Newsletter information is retained until you unsubscribe or the record is otherwise deleted. Comments and reviews may remain until removed by us or upon an appropriate request. Abandoned-cart information is retained while recovery activity is relevant and may remain in our database until manually deleted. We may retain limited suppression information for longer to honor requests not to receive additional cart reminders. Locally maintained order spreadsheets and associated backups are generally retained for up to 7 years, unless a longer period is required to address an unresolved dispute, legal obligation, or other legitimate need. Our service providers maintain information according to their own retention policies. Backup copies may persist for a limited period after information is removed from active systems.

Your Choices and Privacy Requests

Depending on where you live and subject to applicable exceptions, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of certain personal information; receive a copy of certain information; or opt out of certain marketing, targeted-advertising, sale, or sharing activities. You may unsubscribe from promotional newsletters using the link in each message. You may stop cart reminders using the unsubscribe or “Don’t remind me again” option provided in those emails. You may manage cookies through your browser and any cookie-preference tool made available on a Site. Platform-level controls offered by Google, Meta, Apple, and other providers may also affect how those companies use information. To submit a privacy request, email inquiries@emeryroad.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. We may deny or limit a request where permitted by law, including when information must be retained for an order, tax record, security purpose, fraud prevention, legal claim, or another lawful obligation.

Children’s Privacy

The Sites and stores are intended for purchasers such as adults, parents, guardians, educators, librarians, and other general-audience visitors. Although we publish books for children and young adults, we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. A child under 13 should not create an account, make a purchase, subscribe, post a comment or review, or otherwise submit personal information. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us at inquiries@emeryroad.com so we can review and address the matter.

Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. These measures may include encrypted connections, access controls, password protection, security monitoring, limited administrative access, and protected local or cloud storage. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Third Party Links and Services

The Sites may link to retailers, social-media platforms, review sites, delivery services, and other third parties. Those parties operate under their own privacy policies, and this Policy does not govern information you provide directly to them. We encourage you to review the privacy terms of any third-party service you use.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy when our practices, services, providers, or legal obligations change. We will post the revised Policy on the Sites and update the effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through another appropriate method when required.
