Excerpt for BOUGHT (Book 1)

Excerpt for BOUGHT (Book 1)

Hey Readers!

I thought I’d share a brief excerpt for BOUGHT, the first book in my latest young adult dystopian thriller series featuring Fira and Devon. These two are my favorite characters so far and I can’t wait to get Book 2 out to the world (it’s almost complete!) because there are some BIG things that happen in the story. I hope you fall in love with them like I have!

Here’s a brief excerpt to give you a peek into the BOUGHT series!

“Where can we go to talk in private?”

I smirked. “Here will do just fine.” I wasn’t about to be lured away from a public place, even though no one else was around at this hour.

He looked around and frowned. “Forget it then.”

I pursed my lips and shrugged. If that’s how he wanted to play, who was I to convince him otherwise?

“I’ll just have to try harder next time.” He shrugged, raising his hand in another halfhearted gesture. “Maybe bring in reinforcements.”

“I’m sorry you need help to restrain me. It must be a real knock to your ego.”

He smirked. “Oh, I could do it,” he said, stepping closer, his voice certain. He reached his hand out and brushed a tendril of hair away from my face, his fingers mere centimeters from my skin. “But I’m afraid you wouldn’t like the outcome.”

He pulled his hand away and dropped it to his side.

“Of course, if you’re willing, we can skip the whole restraint thing and handle it like civilized individuals. Your choice.”

With him standing so close to me, I couldn’t seem to think straight. The air grew thicker, harder to breathe, like he breathed all of it in and left me with none.

I kept my eyes focused on his face as I cleared my throat. An inability to maintain eye contact would convey weakness to the enemy. I wasn’t about to let him know about my weaknesses. “What’s in it for me?” I asked, trying to keep my voice clear.

Before he could say a word, the faint sounds of laughter echoed in the night. I listened for a moment and then pushed the man into the dark alley beside us.

He grabbed my arm and pushed my back against the brick wall behind a large dumpster. My heart raced as his body pressed against mine, his warm breath raising goosebumps along my neck and making me shiver.

We waited until a young couple holding hands walked past the alley and then disappeared down the street.

He backed away, letting the cool night air rush between us.

I let out a breath and then eyed him for a moment. “Come on,” I said, keeping my voice low as I headed for the other end of the alley. “I know where we can talk in private.”

In a society filled with lies, who can you trust?

Fira Moseley, a sixteen-year-old graduate at the Network for Recovered Children, had big plans for her new career in biochemical research – strive to do her best work so she could provide the most value to society.

But then when the villagers decide they’ve had enough of being treated like scum while the NRC children are treated like royalty, she’s thrown into the whirlwind of the villagers’ revolt.

To make matters worse, her first off-the-record research project involves creating an antidote for the same injection the government plans to use to exterminate the villagers.

Now her future doesn’t look so certain… because assisting the villagers in any way is a crime against the NRC.

This young adult dystopian thriller is the first book in the Bought series. Look for Charged (Book 2) in Summer 2018!
