How to Spice Up Your Newsletter With These Tips

It's easy to end up with so much email in your inbox that you get overwhelmed just thinking about reading it all. All of those great newsletters you signed up for but now don't have the time to read. Am I right? If we experience that, we need to trust that our readers experience that, too.

So, how can we break out of that "slush pile" so readers actually open AND read our letters?

The simple answer: give them a newsletter they'll love. Give them a newsletter they look forward to reading every single week.

How do you do that? For starters, provide them with valuable content. What solutions can you provide to address or solve their urgent, pressing problems? (Check out my article on 3 ways to give your article a makeover. It applies to newsletters and other forms of writing, too.)

The other thing that can help get readers engaged and looking forward to your newsletter is to add a special section to it.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • News/events
  • Word of the day/week
  • Industry-related comics
  • Further reading
  • What clients are saying
  • Q&A
  • Inspiration quote

The ideas are endless. And the special section doesn't have to be long. Provide a little tidbit that piques the reader's interest. Like a piece of trivia. Nothing too long that would make the reader feel overwhelmed by reading it but something short and sweet. This is where you can get really creative.

I recommend that you start small. If you've never used a section like this before or you're getting back into it after a break, start with something you know you can stick to. You don't want to set yourself up to get overwhelmed after the first week.
